Video Boosts Search Engine Ranking Positions

adminSearch Marketing02/09/2013

Using Video content on websites is super SEO friendly, Google Panda friendly and becomes quickly indexed on Google’s results pages and the reason why is quite simple (as it should be) Google places more value on a webpage’s ability to keep visitors engaged and on pages longer.

Peter Bowen, Managing Director at First One On says “now is the time to really think about the long term value that video can offer a website and its pages of content and the sooner that you realise the power and visual impact that only video can deliver, the sooner your pages will be the First One On”.

It’s not hard to see how quickly a video thumbnail about a niche subject can be found at the top of Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs) beating out traditional organic search results. And what do most people click on first – that’s right, the top most listings first and especially if it is a video.

It is estimated that over 60 hours of video content is uploaded to YouTube every 60 seconds and various studies have concluded that pages trying to compete in a competitive niche for a page one listing on Google are 50 times more likely to achieve a page one ranking.

Google has consistently indicated that the longer a visitor stays on a page is an indicator of page quality and to the owner of the webpage the lower the bounce rate the better. A high bounce rate can be interpreted as an indication of low quality or not enough content on the page to engage the visitor.

On average visitors stay up to 2 minutes longer on a website when they are engaged and watching a video.
When it comes to the types of videos that Google likes to list, informative type videos do the best. In fact over 80% of the videos that Google serves up in the search results are of this type.

Pure sales style videos tend not to rank as well. So if the aim is to maximize your chances of showing as a video thumbnail link in the Google results, uploading informational videos to YouTube is your best bet.
